Female Cashier Sent To Prison For Stealing Employer’s N.8m

A female cashier has been sent to Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos till she fulfills the bail conditions granted her by an Igbosere Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N869,770 belonging to her employer.

The suspect, Felicia Dalley, 30 works with 12 Basket Foods Ltd, Sura Plaza, Lagos Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The accused was arrested by the police at Lion Building Division, Lagos Island and arraigned before the court on a one count charge of felony to wit, stealing.

Police Counsel, Oladejo Balogun informed the court in charge No I/22/2018 that the accused committed the offence on 7 February, 2017 and 12 February, 2018 at 12 Baskek Foods Ltd, Sura Plaza.

Balogun told the court that the accused used her position as a cashier with her employer and gave out her GTB bank account number to her employer’s customers to pay the sum of N869,770 into it and allegedly converted the money to her use.

Balogun said that the management of 12 Basket Foods Ltd uncovered the fraud when it audited its account books, leading to the accused’s arrest.

According to him, the offence the accused committed was contrary to section 280 (1)(b) and punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime and Magistrate K.O Ogundare granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ogundare adjourned the case till 15 May, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Kirikiri Prison till she perfected the bail conditions.
