Ahead of GOtv Boxing Night 14 holding at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Staidum, Lagos, on Saturday, participating boxers have been threatening to reduce their respective opponents to pulp.
Djossou “Agoy” Basile, the Beninois boxer scheduled to fight Nigeria’s Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde for the West African Boxing Union (WABU) welterweight title, arrived Nigeria yesterday, vowing to win the title and N1 million cash prize for the best boxer at GOtv Boxing Night 14 holding on Saturday.
The title clash is one of the three scheduled for the event. Basile, who is highly rated around the West African sun-region, disclosed that he has seen Baby Face’s fights and knows what to do to take the title to his country.
“I have seen him fight and I can tell you that he is just a boy in boxing terms. He has been fighting boys all along. But this time, he will fight a man, a real man. There is no hiding place for him. I will win the title and the N1 million cash prize the sponsors are giving to the best boxer,” he said through an interpreter.
Nigeria’s Waidi “Skoro” Usman, who fights Kenya’s Michael “Shaka” Nyawade for the African Boxing Union (ABU) featherweight title, also boasted that his opponent will return to Kenya a crushed man.
Nyawade, on arrival in Lagos on Wednesday, bragged that he will take Skoro out in no time. Similar tough talk has been swapped between Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu and Kazeem “Ijoba” Badmus, who meet in the national lightweight title bout. Oladosu, winner of the N2.5million cash prize for the best boxer at GOtv Boxing Night 13, claimed that he is poised to win the prize for this edition and the title, something dismissed by Badmus, who vowed to crush him.
ABU lightweight champion, Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph has warned his opponent in the national lightweight challenge bout, Prince “Lion” Nwoye, to be ready for savage punching and branded as fantasy Nwoye’s claim that he defeated him many times in the amateur ranks.
“He never once beat me as an amateur. If he did, why did he not represent Nigeria at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He will pay for his lies,” he said.
Nwoye, however, maintained he won amateur duels between them, adding that the time to prove his superiority over Joseph has come.
“He will suffer. I will make him suffer for his denial,” he said.
In the cruiserweight category, Abiodun “Finito” Afini takes on Razak “Ramon” Hyena. Chukwuebuka “Wise King” Ezewudo is up against Semiu “Jagaban” Olapade in the middleweight category. The light heavyweight division will see Sulaimon “Olags” Adeosun up against Majesty “Majesty 1” Maduka.
The event will be aired live on SuperSport in 47 African countries.
