UN Under-Secretary-General Yury Fedotov on Wednesday said he hoped that the ongoing international meeting of high-ranking security officials in Russia’s Sochi would produce realistic recommendations on fight against terrorism worldwide.
“I hope that this conference will work out serious and realistic recommendations.
“The UN will be ready to provide support to the member states in implementation of these aims, as always,’’ Fedotov, also head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, said.
He also underlined that the conference touched upon very acute issues.
“The agenda of this conference is very topical, because it comes at a time when the world is facing growing challenges and risks, as well as problems in mutual understanding between various countries.
“It is very important to focus on common objectives, and one of them is fight against terrorism,’’ the official noted.
The Ninth International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues started on Wednesday in the Russian resort city of Sochi.
The two-day event will bring together heads of security councils, defence ministers, aides to presidents and prime ministers, as well as representatives of security services and law enforcement agencies from over 100 countries.
