The Yobe Commissioner for Health, Dr Mohammed Kawuwa, says malaria though preventable still remains a major public health problem in Nigeria.

Kawuwa made the assertion at the commemoration of the 2018 World Malaria Day (WMD) on Wednesday in Damaturu.

“Over 90 percent of the population in Nigeria is at risk, while children and pregnant women are more vulnerable to this disease.

“The theme of this year’s celebration ‘Ready to Beat Malaria’ with an accompanying slogan ‘Together we can’, provides a clarion for all to commit ourselves

“To advocate and solicit support for more resources, commodities and requires policies that will enable us to defeat Malaria,’’ he said

Kawuwa was represented by the Executive Secretary, Yobe state Primary Healthcare Management Board (YPHMB), Dr Hauwa Goni.
