Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi on Monday charged members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to ensure gender equality in the forthcoming ward congress.

Hunkuyi gave the charge during a stakeholders sensitisation meeting on the forthcoming party congresses held at his constituency office in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Hunkuyi, who represents Kaduna North Senatorial District on the platform of APC, observed that gender equality would not only give the women a sense of belonging but also ensure equity and Justice in the polity.

He said that the meeting was not a political campaign but meant to sensitise stakeholders and supporters to resist imposition of delegates through affirmation or selection during the forthcoming party congress.

“I want to task members of this great party to be gender sensitive by electing women into different positions.

“Make sure that you elect credible persons in every ward who will steer the affairs of this great party; apart from that, make sure that you elect learned individuals.

“Make sure you resist any attempt by those in positions of authority to impose candidates on you; Kaduna State Government does not want to hold congresses; instead, they have already compiled a list of those they want to impose on people.”

He said such a move was a violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as the party’s constitution and should be resisted.

Hunkuyi gave an assurance that his struggle to bring about leadership change was not meant for personal aggrandisement but to liberate Kaduna people.

According to him, politics is not about enslaving people but fulfilling promises, changing the lives of the electorate for the better to ensure positive development.

He alleged that some thugs attacked him and his supporters during a meeting at ENDwell Hotel in Kaduna on Sunday.

Hunkuyi said the attack would not deter him and his followers; however, “this will ginger us up to actively struggle for positive change in Kaduna State.”

The meeting attracted APC chieftains from across the state.
