The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has assured the Kebbi Government of its readiness to stabilise their current partnership to improve the people’s standard of living.

The Mission Director of USAID in Nigeria, Mr. Stevens Ohke, gave the assurance in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, when he paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Atiku Bagudu.

“We are ready to partner with the Kebbi State Government to enable it to achieve stable results in the area of water, health, education, agriculture and other human endeavours,” he said.

Okhe told the governor that the existing mutual understanding and supports currently being enjoyed by the State government in the areas of education and health would be sustained.

He said that the state’s partnership with UNICEF in improving its agriculture and water resources would also be sustained and built upon.

Responding, Bagudu said that Kebbi was an agrarian state where majority of the people engaged in both wet and dry seasons farming.

“Our state is also gender sensitive as more than 45 per cent of key political as well as top civil service positions are occupied by women,” he said.

The governor described Kebbi as a unique state where no interest group dominated the other.

He added that the diverse nature of the state had even made it possible for Muslims and Christians to live together without rancour.

Bagudu called on the United States government to invest in the state, especially in the areas of agriculture and solid mineral.
