A woman, who was allegedly raped while travelling on a special train for football fans in Germany, was unable to identify the suspected assailant, according to a report by local government.

The 19-year-old’s statements to police were “marked by considerable memory gaps’’.

This is because she was unable to recognise the alleged attacker from a number of photographs shown during questioning, said an investigation report released by the North Rhine-Westphalia state government.

As a result, the prosecutor has not requested a warrant against a 31-year-old suspect.

According to the report, the alleged victim was drunk when she met the accused in the `samba car’ of the fan train as it returned from a German league game between Bayern Munich and Borussia Moenchengladbach in mid-April.

The 19-year-old said she had kissed the man in the toilet of the train but verbally refused other acts of a sexual nature.

Despite this, they still engaged in sexual intercourse.

The accused, who is of German and Polish origin, is currently imprisoned in another part of the state for several months for assault.

The legislative committee of the state parliament is scheduled to meet on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the incident.
