Refrigerator repairer remanded for allegedly defiling 9-year-old minor

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Friday remanded 30-year-old refrigerator repairer, Stanley Mbagwe, in prison for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

The magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi said the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons and the case file sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until June 4 for mention.

Mbagwe, who resides at Isolo area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of defilement.

The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 1 at Ire-Akari area in Okota, Lagos State.

He said that the accused had canal knowledge of the girl when he went to repair a refrigerator at her parents’ house and discovered they were not at home.

“He took her into the room, removed her pants, had sexual intercourse with her and
begged her not to tell anybody.

“Some neighbours, however, saw sperm gushing out from her private parts and asked what had happened to her.

“She told them what transpired between her and the accused,” he said.

Ayorinde said the girl’s parents reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested for questioning.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The section attracts life imprisonment for offenders.
