Man remanded for allegedly defiling 10-year-old girl

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Thursday ordered the remand of one Adamu Usman in prison custody over his alleged defiling of a 10-year-old girl.

The 30-year-old accused who resides at Dandishe Quarters Kano, is being tried on a one-count charge of rape.

The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril ordered that the accused be remanded in prison pending advice on the case by the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Jibril adjourned the case till June 25, for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale told the court that one Umar Ibrahim of the same address reported the case at Dala police Division Kano, on May 11.

Lale said that on May 10, the accused deceived and lured the complainant’s 10-year-old younger sister into his room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of the girl.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened section 283 of the penal code.
