Ramadan: Medical experts drop important message

Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, on Tuesday, distributed Ramadan Welfare Package to over 11,000 needy including widows, orphans and people living with disabilities.

Wakkala, while distributing the materials which included clothing materials, food items and money to the less privileged at his residence in Gusau, said that the gesture was his own personal assistance to the needy.

“This is part of my activities in the Holy Month of Ramadan to provide assistance to widows, orphans and other categories of needy.

“We have distributed over 10,000 sets of clothes to the needy; 7,000 widows and female needy as well as 3,000 aged males have benefited from the gesture.

“We are also giving another assistance of clothing materials, food items and cash to 1,000 orphans and less privileged, all aimed at assisting them to celebrate the Sallah festival in a happy mood.

“ Islam recognises assistance to the needy especially in this holy month of Ramadan.

“As Muslims, in the Holy Qur’an, the Almighty Allah has commanded and encouraged giving out and assistance to the needy during this period.

“Last year, we provided similar assistance to over 8,000 beneficiaries and considering the increase of the needy, we increased the number of beneficiaries this year to 11,000.

“I , therefore, call on well meaning individuals and political office holders to provide similar assistance to people in their respective communities, in order to reduce hardship among people,’’ he said.

Wakkala also urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for the security challenges facing the state and country at large.

The state government had in May, given similar assistance as its Ramadan welfare package, to 30,000 orphans across the state through the Zakkat and Endowment Board.
