Bank drags staff to court for allegedly stealing N3.9m

The .Management of Davo Dani Micro-finance Bank has dragged a staff, Christian Okposo, 34, before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly conniving with others still at large to steal the sum of N3,920,000 belonging to customers of the bank.

Commissioner of Police, CP in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit, PSFU in Ikoyi, Lagos, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde directed his men to arrest the accused following a complaint by the management of the bank.

The accused was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a three-count of felony to wit, stealing.

Police Counsel, Daniel Apochi told the court in charge No P36/2018 that the accused committed the offences between 2016 and 2017 in Lagos.

Apochi said that the complainant reported to the Police that they entrusted the sum of N3,920,000 in the care of the accused on trust as a staff to disburse to deserving customers of the bank, but that instead, the accused converted the money to his use.

He said that the offences, the accused committed were punishable under sections 409, 313 and 278(1)(a)(b) and 285 (5) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused denied police’s allegations in the open court and his counsel, Augustine Okeh urged the court to grant the accused bail in the most liberal terms with a promise that he would not jump bail if granted.

Magistrate O.O Otitoju granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 18 June, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos till he fulfiled the bail conditions.
