An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded one Daniel Yakubu, in Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly molesting a five-year-old girl by inserting his finger in her vagina.

Magistrate Mrs B.O Osunsanmi refused to take the plea of the accused but ordered that the accused should be remanded pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Yakubu, 28 year-old tea seller, who resides at Waterside, Lekki, Lagos, is being tried for indecent treatment of a child.

The Police prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 1 at his residence.

He said that the accused unlawfully and indecently assaulted the minor by inserting his finger into her sexual organ.

“When her mother was bathing her, she was crying, begging her mother not to touch or wash her private parts as she was having pains there.

“Her mother took her inside the room, laid her on bed and checked her private parts.

“She discovered that her daughter’s private part was reddish and had wounds.

“She questioned her and the girl told her what the accused did to her.

“The case was reported and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

The offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

Section 135 prescribes seven years imprisonment on conviction.

The case was adjourned until July 23 for mention.
