Brazil down and out

World Cup favourite, Brazil have been knocked out of the ongoing FIFA tournament by Belgium, losing 2-1 in an epic encounter.

Belgium had their goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois to thank after he had seven great saves from the Brazilians.

Belgium opened scoring on 14 minutes through an own goal from Fernandinho.

Nacer Chadli swung in the corner to the front post, no Belgium player was getting on the end of it.

Gabriel Jesus looked like he distracted Fernandinho, who mis-timed the jump for the header, and the ball bounced off his arm and into the net.

A great counter attack gave Belgium the second goal on 32 minutes through Kevin de Bruyne.

Brazil could not handle Romelu Lukaku, who bursted straight through the middle of the park.

He laid the ball on to de Bruyne, who took a couple of touches before arrowing a finish into the far corner.

Brazil mounted pressure in the second half and it paid off on 76 minutes when substitute Renato Augusto reduced the tally, making it 2-1 for Brazil.

Augusto has only been on the field a matter of minutes and he rose highest to flick in a header from Philippe Coutinho’s delightful cross with the outside of his foot.

Brazil mounted further pressure, but the Belgian side held on for a famous victory over the South American side.
