The Nigeria Traditional Boxing Premier League (NITRABOL) has appealed to more states to take part in the traditional game to make it popular in Nigeria.

Ahmed Jada, its Secretary, made the appeal in Abuja on Friday.

According to Jada, only eight states in the federation currently take part in the sport.

“The states are Katsina, Niger, Kano, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Kaduna, FCT and Ogun.

“Borno and Sokoto states have shown interest in joining the league, but we want other states to participate.

“We want the game to be popular in the six geopolitical zones; this is the best way to create awareness and to propagate the game in the country.

“We have started the third edition of “Ganduje Dambe Championship” in Kano and out of the eight states, six are from the North.

“We only have one state from the South West, which is Ogun, no state from the East is participating in the league,’’ he said.

He said that the competition was being sponsored by the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, in collaboration with NITRABOL.

Jada said that the governor had agreed to organise the competition every year and urged other governors to emulate Danduje to make the game popular across the country.

He said that the ongoing competition which started in June would end on July 22.
