Electrocution: Edo Assembly wants Benin Disco to compensate family

The Edo House of Assembly has called on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to compensate the family of one Mrs Augustine Imoudu, who was on Sunday electrocuted in Afuze, Owan East Local Government Area.

This appeal is contained in the House resolution, which was passed on Wednesday in Benin.

The motion was moved by the member representing ( APC Owan East Constituency), Mr Foly Ogedengbe and seconded by the member representing (APC Owan West Constituency), Mr OJo Asein.

In the motion, Ogedengbe said a 33 KVA wire fell on one of the transformers, which resulted in very serious explosion; killing the woman and destroying valuable property in the community.

He noted that three transformers were destroyed in the incident, adding that the BEDC did not respond to the incident immediately.

”Light is a 24-hour service and as such, the BEDC officials are expected to always respond to distress call urgently.

Ogedengbe called on the BEDC to repair the affected transformers and restore light to the community.

Other lawmakers unanimously supported the motion with a call on the BEDC to regularly carry out routine check and maintenance on their facilities to save lives.

The Speaker, Kabiru Adjoto, directed that clean copies of the resolution be sent to the management of the BEDC for immediate action.
