The police at the Ilasan Division of the Lagos State Police Command, Lekki, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria have arrested a 19-year old girl, Divine Giwa for allegedly administering sleeping substance into her friend’s tea, making her sleep off and allegedly stole her cash and properties valued at N918,000.

After drinking the tea, her friend was said to have slept from 7.00am till 10.00pm.

Properties allegedly stolen by the suspect, according to the police included 3 ecolac bags containing clothes valued N200,000.00; 30 pieces of shoes valued at N150,000; jewelries valued N100,000, Zara make-up valued N50,000, and 3 pieces of human hair wigs valued N250,000.

Others included eye glasses valued N20,000 one gionee phone valued N100,000 and N48,000 cash all valued N918,000.

Giwa lived with the victim, Chioma Daniels at Ajose Street, Ilasan, Lekki, Lagos.

Narrating the incident to the police, Daniels allegedly stated; “A friend of mine introduced the suspect to me in March 2017 at KFC place at Lekki, Lagos and begged me to allow the suspect to stay with me pending when she would be able to raise money to rent accommodation and I obliged not knowing that she was a devil.

“I had lived with the suspect peacefully from March to September 2017 when I told her to prepare tea for both of us to drink. And after I drank the tea, I slept off from 7.00am and woke up around 10.00pm, only to discover that the suspect had stolen all my properties and money and escaped.

“I later sighted the suspect at Lekki in June, 2018 and raised the alarm which attracted people who assisted me to apprehend the suspect and dragged her to the police station. I will never allow unknown person to live with me again in my life,” Daniel allegedly told the police.

Following the incident, the Divisional Police Office, DPO in charge of Ilasan Division, Lekki, CSP Oyinye Onwuamagbe directed Inspector Orukotan Lonikola to investigate the matter and recover the stolen properties.

During investigation, Giwa allegedly confessed to the crime that the complainant was nice to her but that the devil pushed her to drug her and stole her properties and took them to Abuja to sell.

Giwa was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a one court charge of stealing.

Police counsel, Ehizoba Godspower told the court in charge No. T/38/2018 that the accused deliberately drugged the complainant to enable her steal her money and properties.

He said the offence committed was punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate M.F. Onanusi granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Onanusi adjourned the case till 1 August, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the kirikiri prison, Apapa Lagos till she fulfilled the bail conditions.
