The organised labour in Bayelsa has urged workers in the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them choose their rightful leaders in the 2019 general elections.

The union, which includes the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), also urged the workers to shun disunity in order to vote out selfish politicians.

The NLC’s Chairman, Mr John Ndiomu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Yenagoa that members in the state had been sensitised on the need to collect their PVCs.

Ndiomu said that only the PVCs would help the workers to demonstrate ability to vote out selfish politicians during the elections.

“As workers, we must demonstrate that we have the ability with our PVCs, to vote in committed politicians.

“We must stand together and united; we should be able to make our voice heard with our PVCs, which is the weapon to vote,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that distribution of PVCs had been ongoing across the eight Local Government Areas of Bayelsa.

Mr Tari Dounana, TUC Chairman in the state, said the importance of PVCs to electing credible leaders and voting out selfish politicians who were not committed could not be over-emphasised.

On the gale of defection of politicians, Duonana urged political gladiators to have Nigerians at heart.

“We must have passion for this country and be guided by the rules that guide us as an existing entity.

“Guided by the rules will not allow us to truncate the nation’s hard earned democracy that we struggled to get together.

“We must work as a united nation to move the country forward,” the TUC Chairman said.
