Former Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Mrs Titi Oseni-Gomez has given reasons for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with 5,000 members to the African Democratic Congress(ADC) for her senatorial intention.

The former speaker gave these reasons during her official declaration to run for the senatorial seat under the Ogun Central Senatorial District under ADC held in Iweroyin, Abeokuta.

“The unfortunate incident was however the most observable beginning of a series of intra-party wrangling within the rank and file of the party which later snowballed into unprecedented political bickering, backing and power struggle among its leaders and members which still haunt it till date.

“Some leaders of the party called for amicable solution to the turmoil by advocating genuine reconciliation but regrettably, some factions chose the other way out of sheer ego, selfish interest and unwarranted acrimonious, hostilities and bad blood which led to the poor performance of the party in subsequent elections and consequently, the downward spiral in the rating of the PDP among the electorate.

“This, not only contributed majorly to electoral losses in 2011 and 2015, it also adversely affected the lives of the citizenry, in the aftermath, notable party members were lost to opposing political parties,” she said.

According to Oseni-Gomez, she had made consultations across political circles and associates, discussions within her family and “with my personal conviction, I have decided to join forces with the reformists by pitching tent with the ADC.

“Therefore, I have decided to move to the ADC as a renewed and reinvigorated political party that can reverse the persistent disappointment in the polity and free the people from the present political system that was built on untruths and propaganda,” she said.

She said her experience as a lawmaker and in party administration had opened her eyes and mind widely and that she was very much aware of the despair and disappointment among the masses.

“Therefore, it is my wish to officially declare my intention to run for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2019 general elections on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun Central Senatorial District. This decision was borne out of my understanding of the workings of the legislative arm of government, experience as a former speaker and wide political network.”

“We must settle for a lawmaker who understands the rules and legislative processes. We need a lawmaker who is reflective and listens to all sides of an issue before making a decision. We need a pragmatic, trustworthy and humane legislator,” she added.
