The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, (PHED) says protesting youths in Ahoada community in Rivers have shut its132KV transmission station located in the area bordering Bayelsa.

Mr John Onyi, the company’s Corporate Communications Manager, said in a statement in Yenagoa on Tuesday that reasons for the action could not be ascertained.

Onyi said that the shutdown of the station had led to blackout in Yenagoa and its environs.
He added: “in view of the ugly incident, the entire Bayelsa State, including Yenagoa, the state capital, has been thrown into darkness.

“Bayelsa state has only one source of power supply, which is from thje Ahoada 132KV transmission station.
“PHED is still making frantic efforts to establish link with relevant authorities in the area with a view to finding out the remote cause of the action.

“We are appealing to our esteemed customers to exercise patience while the issue is being resolved.”
He said that the shutting down of the transmission station by youths had become too frequent, adding that it was shut in 2017 and early February, 2018, which resulted blackout in the state.

He appealed to security agencies to wade into the matter to forestall future occurrence.
