2 brothers remanded for alleged robbery

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of two brothers, Musa Usman, 33 and Abdulrazaq Usman, 25, both of Iporin village in Kwara, for alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Zacch Funsho, told the court that on Sept. 9, 2018, Abubakar Aliyu of Osin-Gada village in Kwara , reported the case at Oke-Ovi Police Division.

Funsho said that on the same date, the complainant’s younger brother, Sahabi Umar, went to the complainant’s house to demand for his money.

The prosecutor said that the complainant gave his brother, N20,000 and promised to pay the remaining N80,000 later in the day.

According to Funsho, the brother insisted on collecting the whole N100,000 to enable him take his child to the hospital.

He said that just as the complainant was about to give his brother the money, two armed bandits appeared with a gun and a cutlass behind his brother.

The prosecutor said that the complainant dropped the money on the floor and ran away, shouting thieves.

He explained that this alerted the people around the area and led to the arrest of one of the thieves.

Funsho said that during police interrogation, the arrested thief, Musa Usman, confessed that he and the second accused person and one other person, now at large, had been robbing people before now.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 2 and 6 of the Robbery and Fire Arms Act.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Bello, ordered the remand of the accused persons in Mandala Prison yard.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 3, for further mention.
