Labourer remanded for allegedly raping 13-year-old girl

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano, on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old labourer, Jibril Salisu, in prison for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

The accused person, who lives at Dorayi Quarters Kano, is being tried on one-count charge of rape.

The Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Fatima Adamu, ordered that he be remanded in prison, pending the advice by the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Adamu adjourned the case until Nov. 6 for mention.

The accused had however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Aluta Mijinyawa, told the court that one Ado Yakubu of the same address reported the case at the Sharada Police Division, Kano, on Aug. 26.

Mijinyawa said that sometime in March 2018, the accused deceived and lured the complainant’s 13-year-old daughter into his shop situated at Dorayi Quarters Kano.

The prosecutor said that the accused forcefully had sexual intercourse with her which resulted in a pregnancy.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 283 of the Penal Code.
