The Government of the People’s Republic of China on Wednesday said there are indications that its relations with Nigeria would be “mutually prosperous” in the years ahead.

Mr Chao Xiaoliang, the Consul-General of China in Lagos, made the disclosure in an article entitled, “China –Nigeria Relations Enjoy Bright Future”.

Chao noted that the coincidence of China’s celebration of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and Nigeria’s Independence on Oct. 1 was vitally important for both countries future.

“October 1st is an important day to both China and Nigeria. It is a day to mark the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the independence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Looking back at our history, we are pleased to witness the progress that has over these years been made in China and Nigeria relations.

“Looking to the future, we are confident that China-Nigeria relations will enjoy a prosperous future,” he said.Chao, who congratulated Nigerians and Chinese in Lagos ahead of both countries celebrations in Oct. 1, reaffirmed his home government’s commitment to strengthening relations with Nigeria in the years ahead.

According to him, this year marks the 47th anniversary of the establishment of China and Nigeria diplomatic relations.

The consul-general said that both countries had over these years maintained strategic partnership in the fields of politics, trade, infrastructure development, IT, agriculture and culture.

“The traditional friendship and relations of good cooperation between China and Nigeria have stood the test of time becoming stronger and stronger despite the vast oceans between the two countries.

“In recent years,China and Nigeria strategic partnership have enjoyed comprehensive and rapid development, cooperation between the two countries is flourishing, especially in the fields of politics, trade, infrastructure development, IT, agriculture and culture.

“`Let me also say that People–to-People and cultural exchange programmes are growing rapidly between our countries. And the number of Nigerian students who chose China as their preferred destination is increasing,’’ he said.
