The Social Democratic Party (SDP) says only eight candidates will be vying for seats in the House of Assembly and House of Representatives on its platform in Lagos State during the 2019 elections.

The Chairman of SDP in Lagos State, Otunba Olatunde Onakoya, spoke on phone with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.

According to him, the aspirants were screened on Thursday and the primary elections conducted on Friday, where they emerged to fly the party’s flag in both the state and federal parliamentary seats.

“We have four candidates for the House of Assembly — two male and two female — while we also have four candidates for House of Representatives in the state — one male and three female.

“We are very satisfied with the exercise. Our candidates have very bright chances in the elections and we are very confident of them,” Onakoya said.

He said that the party primaries, held at the National Stadium, were monitored by both national officers of the party and representives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NAN reports that the party’s timetable shows electioneering activities kick-started with screening of House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate aspirants simultaneously on September 27.

Primary elections for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate aspirants follow suit on Sept. 28, after which appeal for all primary elections is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Screening of the party’s governorship aspirants will commences Sept. 30 while the primary and appeal for governorship primaries holds October 1 and 2 respectively.
