A member of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Fatai Oluwa, has been accused of parading a fake educational certificate ahead of the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His political opponents claimed it was with a fake certificate of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) that he emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the State Assembly and also won on the election.

Oluwa later defected to the APC with some of his colleagues at the House.

Oluwa’s purported WAEC certificate

According to the allegation, Oluwa had impersonated one Gboyega Oyenubi, who is claimed to be the lawmaker’s friend and real owner of the certificate.

They also alleged that the lawmaker had been parading different dates of birth, one on the WAEC certificate and the other on his birth certificate.

“It is with this certificate that he was packaged by the PDP machinery in 2015. The real name behind the passport photograph is Gboyega Oyenubi – a friend of Fatai Oluwa who actually sat for the exam.

“They decided to blur the photograph on the certificate to hide the identity of the actual owner of the certificate,” one of his political opponents alleged.

The lawmaker was accused of committing forgery and perjury, offences punishable by law, for lying on oath before a court in 2015.

They also wanted him disqualified by the APC saying his Ajeromi Ifelodun constituency deserved the best.

In a telephone conversation with PM News, Oluwa said every details of his documents were at the APC State Secretariat and that he did not want to be commenting on the issue as he had been receiving calls on the same matter.

Oluwa’s birth certificate

“I will send a number to you to call to verify. Go to the APC secretariat, everything is there,” he said, even as he sent the number of one of his aides.

Responding to the allegations, spokesperson to Oluwa, Sherrif Fakunle said the allegations were totally false and unfounded.

He told PM News on phone that the whole episode was simply political mischief and that Oluwa had never engaged in forgery and that every documents to prove his innocence were available.

“We have evidence that he sat for the examination and that it is his picture that is on the certificate,” Fakunle said, urging the public to disregard the allegations.
