PM News gathered that the students began the protest on Wednesday continued it on Thursday as they they shutdown the entrance of the institution, preventing lecturers and non-academic staff from gaining entrance into the institution.

Speaking with one of the affected students who pleaded anonymity, he said that the part-time and evening students of the institution had been neglected by both the lecturers and the state government for many weeks, lamenting that they were being made to suffer while other activities of the institution continued, both academic and non-academic.

It would be recalled that the state government had decided to convert the Polytechnic to a full fledged University of Science and Technology to be known as the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH), while establishing a new state polytechnic, Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia, a decision which was kicked against by most stakeholders of the institution, partly causing the recent imbroglio.
