A 21-year-old woman, Better Musa, charged with unlawful possession of firearms, was on Tuesday remanded in Kirikiri Prison on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Musa, a student and resident of Ijora-Badia, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for illegal possession of firearms.

The Magistrate, Mrs S.K. Matepo, who gave the ruling, said the accused should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused committed the offence on Sept. 21 at Ijora, Lagos, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo told the court.

He alleged that the accused, who was found with 5.56mm live ammunition, had the intention to commit felony.

Odugbo said that the accused’s customer gave the police information about the activities of the accused.

“The accused, who had a disagreement with her client over money, exposed her.

“Police stormed her house, recovered the ammunition and arrested her ” the prosecutor said.

The offence violated Section 330 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The offence attracts seven years imprisonment.

The case was adjourned until Nov.5 for mention.
