The Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Bayelsa has embarked on a five-day free medical outreach for flood victims at different Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar, who flagged-off the programme on Thursday at Igbogene IDPs camp in Yenagoa, said the essence was to support flood victims in the state.
Abubakar, represented by Air Vice-Marshall Napoleon Bali, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Mobility Command, said the medical services included blood pressure, weight and eye checks, provision of free medicated glasses, laboratory test, as well as free drugs and insecticide treated nets.
“This medical outreach is in line with NAF’s corporate social responsibility and is designed to help in uplifting the condition of living of flood victims in Bayelsa State, who must have contacted some diseases associated with flood disaster, such as malaria, typhoid fever and other diseases.
“The free medical outreach will feature eyes test, glucose test, blood pressure, malaria and other medical operations, and drugs will be administered to them,” he said.
Abubakar urged victims of the disater in the state to avail themselves of the gesture.
Mr Aziowie Ayii, Director, Information and Communication, Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), commended NAF for the gesture.
Ayii called on stakeholders and other government agencies to also help in alleviating the sufferings of the victims, assuring that the state government had already taken some measures to ensure that no life was lost.
A victim, Mrs Comfort Ikpobo, an aged women, commended the effort of NAF, adding that before they were evacuated from their houses, they had lost all their property.
Over 150, 000 persons in Bayelsa have been displaced by flood in the state.
