Mr Francis Onyiauke, a Youth Corps members in Kumbotso local government area, Kano state, has constructed a dumpster to support members of the community to ensure proper waste disposal.

Onyiauke in Kano on Monday that the project was part of his community development service (CDS) to his host community.

The Corps member who is currently serving at Babayaro Memorial International School, Mariri, said he spent over N100,000 to construct the dumpster.

“I have enormous passion for the environment. I discovered the state of affairs in my host community; the rate of environmental pollution was unbearable and inhabitable.

“This is the reason behind my decision to provide the dumpster to proffer a lasting solution to the problem of improper waste disposal in the community.

“Iam happy the project was a success as I was able to meet one of the set millennium Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Onyiauke said the project was sponsored by the African Centre for Environmental Protection (ACEP).

Speaking on the dumpster, the corps member said it has an opening at the top that could be flipped backward.

“So any person who wishes to throw any unwanted material away can just go to the dumpster, open it from the top, put the refuse or rubbish into the dumpster and carefully close it.

This, he said, would prevent scavengers from opening the dumpster and ravaging the refuse,” he said.
