The Kebbi Government says it will build 40 Nomadic schools in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
The State Secretary, Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Balarabe Abdul-Mumeen, made the disclosure during an interactive session with leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
He said that the state government would strengthen security and make education accessible to all the children in the state.
“The work will soon commence as we have already interacted with the Fulani leaders in all the communities and some have already provided lands for us to commence the work,’’ he said.
The state has over 118 nomadic schools and was created out of the present Sokoto State in 1991.
In an interview with NAN, the Coordinator of Nomadic Education in the SUBEB, Alhaji Usman Aliyu, said the state had about 118 Nomadic schools and 11,383 pupils.
Aliyu said that 7,064 were males, while 4,329 were females across the 21 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the state government adequately equipped the schools with instructional materials, standard infrastructure and pays staff salaries as and when due.
Aliyu said that enrolment retention, substitution and completion were major challenges bedeviling the nomadic schools.
“Some parents are of the habit of retaining their children and not sending them to schools.
“Some send the siblings of the pupils in place of the already registered students with the flimsy excuse that they send the registered wards for an errand somewhere,’’ he said
Aliyu urged parents to complement the government’s efforts by ensuring that their wards go to schools.
