Mr Luka Achi, National President, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to him, the conference was shifted as a result of the current security situation in Kaduna state.
“Following the emergency Management meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners on the 24th of October, 2018 on the current security situation in Kaduna state, as well as, the implications on the Conference and AGM.
“The conference originally slated to hold between 29th of October to 2nd November, 2018; the date of the event has been shifted forward.
“Management gathered that the crisis is as a result of a communal clash 45 Km away from Kaduna metropolis and the kidnapping of a traditional ruler.
“The crisis which was threatening to spread into Kaduna Metropolis resulted in the imposition of a curfew,”
Achi said that the management of the institute sympathises with the people and Government of Kaduna State.
He said that the management of the institute has resolved that the event be shifted to hold between 19th and 23rd of November, 2018 in Kaduna.
The national president noted that the decision was taken considering the implications for all shades of opinions, apprehension and cost to members.
Achi said that the situation necessitated a shift in date to give room for monitoring before a change of venue, saying “If the security situation does not improve, the new date will be retained and the venue changed to Abuja.”
He said the management of the institute regrets all inconveniences caused by the change in date.
