Dr Kabir Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary, Jigawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHDA) says that state has not recorded any new Wild Polio Virus (WPV) in the last six years.

Ibrahim made this known while speaking with newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday.

According to him, concerted efforts by the state government, Rotary Club and other relevant stakeholders, as well as traditional and religious institutions played a great role in tackling the disease.

“We have been partnering with Rotary Club to get rid of polio in Jigawa and Nigeria in general.

“And for Jigawa, this is exactly six years, two days away from WPV in the state.

“The last polio virus recorded in Jigawa was in Oct. 2012, and now we are in Oct. 2018,’’ Kabir said.

He added that the agency, in collaboration with other stakeholders was doing its best in educating people on the need and importance of immunization.

The executive secretary urged all parents across the state to desist from acts capable of hampering efforts in eradicating the disease.

Ibrahim also commended traditional and religious leaders as well as relevant stakeholders for working as “change agents” and for sensitising residents on polio and other routine immunisations in the state.
