Gov. Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday called on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to Ogun to always imbibe the spirit of patriotism while discharging their duties.

Amosun made the call in a message to the Swearing-In ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members held at the State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Sagamu.

2,321 corps members were deployed for the batch consisting of 1, 119 males and 1, 202 females.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, urged the corps members to be disciplined, loyal and selfless in achieving a successful service year.

“The task of nation-building is a collective effort, one which requires sacrifice and dedication and to this end, I admonish you to be diligent.

“You should challenge yourself toward making the best use of this opportunity and play your role toward the development of the communities you represent.

“You must make a personal decision to abandon any past anti-social conduct so that the hope you will move our nation to higher levels of achievement can be actualized.

“The nation expects you to be committed, versatile and innovative and as such you must leave bold imprints on the sands of time.

“Your mobilization for service is a call for sacrifice, display of humility and patriotism as there are lessons to be learnt in the task of nation-building,’’ the governor said.

He advised the corps members to elevate patriotism in all they do from now, during and after the service year.

Amosun promised to support the corps members, saying that the state government was sure that the corps members would prove themselves useful products in their mission to rebuild the state.

Earlier, Mrs. Josephine Bakare, the State NYSC Coordinator, charged the corps members to live peacefully with their host communities, saying that the NYSC was a bedrock for promoting national unity.

She said the corps members must take the training modules at their disposal seriously in order to make a success of their service year.

Bakare also commended the state government for its support, especially in the approval for drilling a borehole to provide potable water at the camp.

She urged other stakeholders to emulate the gesture and promised that the scheme would not relent in its passion for excellence.
