The Kogi Government on Thursday donated foodstuffs and other relief items to victims of flood disaster at Itobe, in Ofu Local Government Area.
Mrs. Dorcas Enehe, Director, Climate Change, at the environment ministry, handed over the items to leaders of the affected communities, on behalf of Sanusi Yahaya, the commissioner.
Enehe, in a brief speech, appealed to the leaders of the communities to share the items equitably, and cautioned against the temptation to divert them.
She reiterated Gov. Yahaya Bello’s commitment to cushioning the effect of the flood disaster on the victims scattered in various Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), camps, saying that 40 communities were affected in Itobe.
Some leaders of the communities, who spoke with NAN, commended the Kogi government for the gesture, saying that it was the first time the victims were receiving any assistance.
Mohammed Yusuf, one of the leaders, thanked the governor for remembering the victims, and particularly expressed happiness that the items were delivered directly to the victims.
Another community leader, Mr Mohammed Danladi, thanked the state government for the assistance, and promised that the items would be shared fairly.
Items donated to the victims included bags of rice, beans, flour, Guinea corn, maize, mattresses, blankets, mats, detergents, among others.
