The military authorities have charged some Nigerian Army officers who ended a leadership development training in Lagos, to utilize the knowledge to manage the country’s security and socio-political challenges.

15 Lieutenant-Colonels and Colonels participated in the second phase of the 2018 Nigerian Army Leadership Development Seminar from Oct. 22 to Oct. 25.

The three-day seminar which has the theme: “Managerial Intelligence: A Panacea for Leadership Development’’, was facilitated by the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration, Apapa.

The training is to prepare them on managing crises and chaotic situations.

Closing the event, the Chief of Accounts and Budget, Nigerian Army Finance Corps, Maj.-Gen. Cyril Agulanna said the seminar would help the officers in being creative and strategic in planning.

“I believe the seminar has prepared the participants for their day to day assignments which requires sacrifice and sense of judgment in the decision-making process as leaders in the army.

“The seminar will also help the officers to expand their ability to translate ideas into practical roadmaps as managers of human and material resources,’’ he said.

Agulanna thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai for making the training possible and for his unflinching support.

Earlier, the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration, Brig.-Gen. Bamidele Taiwo said the seminar was a clear indication that the army was not left behind in the development of leaders.

He said the officers needed to sharpen their skills and develop managerial intelligence.

Taiwo said the seminar was a reaffirmation of the commitment and importance that the army attached to the capacity building and career progress of personnel.

He urged all the officers to utilize what they had learnt in their respective offices in ensuring effective and efficient management of human and material resources in the attainment of optimal performance in their duties.

The seminar which started on Oct. 22 had officers drawn from different units and formation in the army.

It discussed “Understanding and developing managerial intelligence’’, “Influence of Managerial intelligence on leadership styles’’, “Advanced emotional intelligence’’ and “Fostering and developing team motivation’’.
