The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) is soon to capture and enrol all taxable adults in the state on a digitized platform, its Executive Chairman, Dr David Nzekwu, said on Tuesday.

He said the exercise would provide a simple system of operation where taxes accruable to the state would be paid into government accounts from any location, within or outside the state.

Nzekwu spoke at a one-day workshop organised by the agency tagged: “Technology Integration Workshop.’’

He said that with the new plan, distinctive revenue accounts would transform all revenue collection and payments in the state.

The executive chairman said that digitization would help maximise revenue and stem the level of tax evasion in the state.

He said the new system would also enable AIRS to effectively harness all potential taxpayers in the state.

In his remarks, Mr Victor Okere of the Anambra Economic Think Tank (ANETT) said that the new idea in revenue collection would nip in the bud crimes and other ills associated with revenue collection being experienced in the state.

He said that lack of tollgates and the difficulties experienced in identifying taxpayers had, to a large extent, affected revenue collection in Anambra.

Okere said the solution was a technology-driven, transparent system that would serve as a repository and single point of convergence for all revenue windows in the state.
