No fewer than 20 physically challenged persons have benefitted under the ‘Step C’ Training and Empowerment Programme of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in Nasarawa State, says Mr Joseph Ari, the Director-General of the Fund.,

Ari, who made this known while addressing a gathering on Tuesday in Lafia, said that the programme developed to equip and empower physically challenged persons.

According to him, the programme which was launched in August 2018, in line with the Federal Government’s job creation policy.

Ari said that the empowerment training was targeted at improving the lives of physically challenged persons in the society.

The director-general, represented by Mr Mohammed Alhassan, a Deputy Director at the Jos Headquarters, advised physically challenged persons not be discouraged by their conditions.

Ari urged them to use their talents in acquiring skills that would help in reducing over dependency on government.

“This programme was initiated with the objective to provide technical and vocational training to disabled Nigerians in different trades and crafts.

“We believe that equipping them with skills will strengthen them socially and economically,” he said.

On his part, Mr Zakari Sabo, the Lafia ITF Area Office Manager, charged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge acquired to use, to improve their standard of living.

In a remark, Mr Ibrahim Ugaji, the Executive Secretary, State Rehabilitation Board, commended ITF for extending the training to the physically challenged persons in Nasarawa.

He urged the beneficiaries not to misuse the opportunity given to them.

Mr Solomon Usakade, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the ITF for putting smiles on their faces, promising not to disappoint them.

The event featured the presentation of certificates and start-up packs to the beneficiaries.
