The Osun House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the bill for the establishment of the State Health Insurance Scheme.
This followed a motion by the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Dejo Bello (APC- Boripe/Boluwaduro) and seconded by the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Mr Oyeleke Ogunsola(APC-Ayedire) at the plenary in Osogbo.
Speaking shortly after the passage of the bill, Mr Najeem Salaam, the Speaker, said residents of the state would now have greater access to quality, effective and affordable healthcare services.
Salaam also said that the bill, when accented to by the governor, would relief residents from huge medical bills through the state grant which would be made available to the scheme.
The speaker said the scheme would ensure provision of healthcare services at the least cost and also ensure private sector participation in the provision of healthcare services.
“It will also ensure adequate distribution of health facilities in the state,’’ he said.
Salaam urged residents to key into the scheme for affordable and quality healthcare system.
