The Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Onofiok Luke, has said that arrangement are underway to establish a Security Trust Fund for security officers to ensure continuous peace in the state.

Luke said that the trust fund when established would provide funds for procurement of security equipment and provide support to personnel, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

The speaker who disclosed this in an interaction with newsmen in Uyo on Thursday, stressed that the fund which would have the backing of the legislature would take off next year.

He said that industrialisation, which is the cardinal point of Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s administration could not strive without peace and security in the state.

The Speaker, who said that there cannot be industrialisation without security, stated that the governor has been working with security agencies in the state to make sure that lives and property of residents are secured.

“You can’t have industrialisation if you don’t have security, that is why Gov. Udom Emmanuel has invested massively to give logistic support and every other thing to security agencies.

“The Security Trust Fund will give support to Federal Government agencies to ensure security of lives and property in the state, ” Luke said.

He called on the people of the state to re-elect Emmanuel for continued peace, security, industrialisation and infrastructural development.

Luke said the governor has promoted peace in the state, adding that the security challenges experienced before the onset of his government has been checked.

He stated that the governor has through his industrialisation programme built industries in the state that were non existence in the 31 years of the state’s creation.
