The Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in the Federal Capital Territory has advised motorists to comply with traffic regulations to ensure accident-free roads in the remaining weeks of the year.

The Area Traffic Officer for Wuse-Berger Junction, Mr Emeka Onyebulem, gave the advice in Abuja on Monday.

The last quarter of the year popularly called “ember months’’ in road traffic circle are usually characterised by the increase in vehicular movements and attendant recklessness by road users.

Onyebulem also urged motorists to ensure their vehicles were in order, saying that “because at this season, people crave to travel from one location to the other’’.

He explained that since the Berger outpost of the VIO was established in January 2018, officers had been working hard to ameliorate traffic challenges in the axis.

“We are also out to help motorists in meeting their demands like those coming for inspection, car papers update and so on.”

Onyebulem, however, said a lot of vehicles were apprehended for defects, ranging from defective brake light, cracked windscreen, defective traffic indicators and worn tyres, among others.

He said that motorists who defaulted in any of the traffic rules was subjected to instant repairs or compliance, especially with regards to brake light.

“There is no gainsaying that a vehicle without brake light and traffic indicator cannot meet the requirements on the road.

“Some vehicles have worn tyres which we compel the owners to change for the safety of everybody,” he said.
