The Delta Government has said that it will construct new hostels and renovate the existing structures at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in the state.

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this on Thursday during a facility tour at the NYSC camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

Okowa noted that the hostel facilities currently in use in the camp were built more than 10 years ago.

He said, “I need to turn this place around urgently and within six months because corps members make a lot of inputs into the development of the state.”

The governor said that his administration was committed to the welfare of corps members serving in the state as part of its responsibility to the NYSC.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Benjamin Omotade who took the governor round the camp, lamented the security challenges posed by the non-availability of perimeter fence round the camp.

Omotade said that the hostels were crying for serious attention as corps members needed conducive environment due to their regimented life on camp.

He said that water was another challenge being faced in the camp as the existing borehole could not service the 50,000 gallon capacity tank needed at the camp.

Omotade who presented bunches of plantain to the governor as a gift said they were harvested from the plantain farm in the camp.

The state director appealed to the state government not to relent in its commitments to the activities of the corps.

He noted that the next orientation in camp would begin on Nov 19 and end on Dec 5, pointing out that there would be no camping until after the 2019 general election.
