Truck dealer remanded for stealing N3m truck

A 40-year old man, Adefowora Adebayo who claimed to be trucks dealers at Berger area of Lagos State, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly selling a diesel truck belonging to Festus Omotan and converted the proceeds to his use instead of remitting the money into his account as agreed.

The accused was arrested by the operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, FCIID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos following a petition by Omotan.

After investigation by ASP Omale Anebi and his team, the accused was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate court Lagos on a two count charges of conversion and issuance of Diamond Bank dud cheque.

Police counsel, Morufu Animashaun informed the court in charge No: P/103/2018 that the accused committed the offence in 2016 at I, Bola Baderun street, Ifako-Oworoshoki, Lagos.

Animashaun told the court that the complainant reported to the police that he entrusted a diesel truck to the accused as truck dealer to help him sell and remit the proceeds into his account, but that he was shocked that after the accused sold the truck for N3 million, he converted the money to his use.

He said that the accused, instead issued a Diamond Bank Cheque valued N5.7 million to the complainant for the payment of the money, but that when the complainant presented the cheque at the bank for payment, it was rejected due to lack of money in the accused account.

Animashaun noted that the offences committed were punishahble under Sections 287(1) and 315(1) (A) (B) of the criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and the presiding Magistrate, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate adjourned the case till 4 December, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi, Prison, Lagos till he perfected the bail conditions.
