The police at the Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island, Lagos have dragged a 24-year Old Lagos Island youth, Suleiman Yusuf before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing his sister’s two years old son, Samuel Adeyanju to death.
Police alleged that the accused used a sharp piece of breakable plate to stab the toddler while he was sleeping at then 17, Ricca Street, Lagos Island, to punish the mother for preventing him from fighting his colleague at a market in the area.
Police alleged that problem started for the accused when he went to a market in the area to fight his colleague and his sister, the mother of the victim on receiving information about the fight rushed to the scene to make peace and took the accused home.
The accused, according to the police, allegedly attacked his sister at home for coming to the market to prevent him form fighting his colleague.
He was alleged to have picked up a sharp piece of breakable plate to stab his sister, but that she ran away and in annoyance the accused entered his sister’s room where her son was sleeping and allegedly stabbed him about five times all over his body and head and escaped.
It was gathered that neighbours who witnessed the incident raised the alarm which attracted the mother of the victim who rushed back home from where the was hiding from her brother to meet her son in the pool of blood gasping for breadth.
She rushed her son to a hospital in the area where doctors on duty confirmed him dead due to excessive loss of blood.
Yusuf was charge before the Igbosere Magistrate court, Lagos on a one count charge of unlawful murder.
Police counsel, Rosemary Ehimegbe said that the offence committed was punishable under section 223 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.
The plea of the accused was not taken and Magistrate M. O. Oshinbanjo ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the advise from the office of the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP on the matter and adjourned the case till 5 December, 2018 for mention.
