The Ekiti State Government on Tuesday suspended flitching and unauthorised logging activities in its forests across the 16 local government areas of the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Forestry Zonal Officers with the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Environment in Ado- Ekiti.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Foluke Adeyemo, said the suspension had become necessary to curtail the abuse of flitching activities noticed by the government in its forests.
Adeyemo, who threatened to confiscate any vehicle caught in the unwholesome act, said the government would sell-off the planks on the directive of a court order.
She also said the government had taken necessary steps to block all revenue leakages in the state and directed all forestry officers to ensure a 24-hour patrol.
