The All Progressives Congress, APC, has mobilised thousands of its supporters in Ejigbo area of Lagos for door-to-door campaign for the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other party members in the state vying for electoral positions.
The Mandate Movement, TMM, arm of the party, in Ejigbo is driving the move in a bid to ensure that APC records landslide victory in the area for all party candidates.
Speaking at the flag-off of the ‘Get out and vote for APC candidate’ at the Ejigbo mini-stadium, in Ejigbo on Tuesday, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, who heads the movement, said the TMM was fully and irrevocably committed to the principles and agenda of the APC, as it served as a vanguard of the party committed to the promotion, protection and propagation of the manifesto of the APC.
“The role of tendencies in parties is to act as energisers at critical periods, interpret the manifesto in a manner that advances its interests and the full development of the populace. We are aware that the general elections is near. On February 16, we shall go to the polls to elect our president, our senator, our member of the Federal House of Representatives. On March 2, we shall return to the polling booths to elect our governor and member of the House of Assembly.
“Our party, the APC, needs all the support it requires to accomplish this task. We are competing with over 60 parties nationwide and no fewer than 40 parties are contesting with us in the Oshodi-Isolo constituency 2. In an electioneering period such as this, it is normal for other parties to try to put down the Herculean and heroic efforts of the Asiwaju movement which has moved from the Alliance for Democracy to the Action Congress and now the All Progressives Congress,” he said.
Bamigbetan said the movement must have heard of the campaigns against the APC by other parties on the radio, television and newspapers and how they tried to mis-interpret the programmes and projects of the party in order to give the impression that the APC had done nothing.
“We want to assure you that all these antics is just the efforts of the cobweb that says it will not allow an elephant to pass. As our people say, even it is predicted that an animal with horns will knock one to death, it cannot be the ambition of a snail,” he said.
Bamigbetan added that the achievements of the Asiwaju movement in Ejigbo is legendary, saying that the establishment of the Ejigbo LCDA, was the achievement of the APC.
According to him, the APC had executed several projects in Ejigbo, some of which included: Ejigbo Multipurpose Centre, modern secretariat, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Primary School, Oladele Alake Primary School, Primary healthcare centres at Onaiwamimo, Free meal, Free uniforms, Free GCE forms, free JAMB forms, free vocational education, among others.
He said the APC, therefore, had more than enough to convince Ejigbo people to vote the party on February 16 and March 2, but noted that party supporters could not sit at home and expect miracles on election day.
“We have to go out and engage the people and convince them that the candidates of our party are the best servants that can serve them. This is why we have created a team each for each candidate at each of the polling booths to be used in this election.
“It is a collective work that will continue day and night until victory is achieved. Our task is to get out the vote by visiting voters and persuading them that APC is still the best choice for residents of Ejigbo,” he said.
