The Lagos State Government has charged its youth  development officers to be more efficient in their service delivery by engaging the Youths of the State in useful activities.

The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Agboola Dabiri gave this charge at a One Day Management training for Youth Development Officers in Onikan, Lagos.

He said he desired a situation whereby officers would be trained on how to effectively manage the facilities provided for the youth through out the state.

Dabiri noted that the training would also be beneficial in homes as a “lot us people do not know how to manage space and would go and hoard stuffs that are no longer useful rather than give them out to those who need them.

“Government is renovating other centers such as Akinwunmi at Alago Meji, Yaba; Sam Shonibare, Surulere as well as the Ikeja Youth Centre to make them more habitable and fit for the teeming population of youth in the state,” he said.

Dabiri said the duty of the Youth Development Officers in the state was as unique as the role of a parent, adding that youths needed proper monitoring and meaningful engagement.

The Commissioner appealed to the youths to maintain the available facilities provided by the state government, noting that “maintenance is the key to durability”.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sherifat Balogun urged the officers to make good use of the facility training in the course of their work as this would enable them to be more efficient in managing both the youth and the centres.

She added that while the training should serve a mindset changer, officers should be more innovative in the course of their work.
