Noble Youths Mass Support Association (NYMSA), a non-governmental organisation, has called on the electorate to eschew violence and promote peace in the forthcoming general elections.

Mr Godwin Omonya, the National Coordinator of the group, made the call in Gwagwalada on Wednesday.

He urged the electorate to view the 2019 general elections as a means of enhancing the nation’s democracy and socio-economic development.

“Winning elections should not be a desperate task for our politicians; they should refrain from gaining power at all costs through Machiavellian tactics.

“Our politicians should eschew hate speeches, which are usually disseminated through the social media.

“We call on all eligible voters to promote violence-free elections; they should also come out en masse on election days and vote for credible leaders,’’ he said.

Besides, Omonya advised the electorate and the contestants to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, while considering the interests of the country during and after the elections.

“We are calling on the electorate to choose candidates by using certain parameters such as credibility, integrity and political ideology.

“The security agencies and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be firm and fair; they must remain unbiased and they should not to be attached to any candidate or political party,’’ he said.

Omonya also called on the youth not to allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians to foment trouble or perpetrate electoral malpractices during the elections
