The Police at the Ikoyi Division, Lagos have arrested and arraigned a housemaid, Lamboni Kami, 43, from Togo for allegedly stealing his Employer`s N3.5 million from her room after she traveled abroad.

A Police source alleged that trouble started for the maid on 21 January, 2019 when he allegedly used a duplicate key to gain entry Into his employer`s bed room to steal the N3.5 million she kept in her wardrobe and escaped.

The source said that when the complainant returned from abroad to discover the theft and her maid was nowhere to be found, she reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Ikoyi Division, CSP Tijani Mustapha N`abba who directed his team led by Inspector Tope Ijatuyi to fish out the fleeing maid.

Following the directives, the Police team swung into action and tracked the maid to a hide out in Lagos and arrested him.

During the investigation, according to the Police source, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime that greed pushed him to steal his employer`s money, adding that he regretted his action because his boss was very nice to him.

Kami was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos with two count Charge of stealing.

Police Counsel, Cyriacus Osuji informed the court that the accused committed the alleged offence at plot 15b, Delta Street, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos after his boss left him at home and traveled abroad.

Osuji told the court that the accused used a duplicate key to gain entry into his boss’ bed room to steal her N3.5 million she kept in her wardrobe. He said that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411 and 287(7) of the criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to charges and the presiding Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjoined the case till 14 March, 2019 for mention.

The defendant was remanded at Ikoyi, Prison, Lagos pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions.
