Mr Akinpelu Aina, a member of Ogun House of Assembly, on Monday, said that the All Progressive Congress (APC), would win the March 9 governorship election without the support of Gov. Ibikunle Amosun.

Aina (APC–Ado /Ota 1), who made the remark in Ota during his empowerment programme, noted that the candidate of the party in the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was credible and remained the best for the position.

The lawmaker explained that the party had come to stay in the state and country, saying that Abiodun had come to rescue the state and save the citizens.

“This empowerment is to declare my total support to Prince Dapo Abiodun for governorship under our party, APC. I believe in him. I want to tell you that Dapo Abiodun is a saviour.

“He has come to rescue this state; he has come to save us. I want to also thank the party leadership for zoning the deputy governorship slot to our local government, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.

“APC as a party has come to stay and nobody can change that. I contested for the post of the House of Representatives; I didn’t get the ticket. That did not make me to pull out of the party,” he said.

Aina, House Committee Chairman on Information, explained that he was offered tickets by five political parties across the state, but as a loyal party man, there was need to respect the party.

“But for me, I was so surprised seeing some people pulling out of the party and now telling us that when the elections are over, they would come back to the party.

“I want to assure you that without our governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun; he is just an individual, though highly placed in the party and in the state. He has a stake as well.

“But I want to assure you; no individual can dictate the tune. Some people have come out to tell the governor himself that not in their lifetime will he become the governor of Ogun State but while they are still alive, he became the governor in 2011.

“He was reelected in 2015. So, if he is now coming out to say somebody will not become governor except his own chosen candidate, that is not good enough and it must be tackled accordingly.

“We know the configuration of Ogun state. All the people of the state, the Ijebu, Egba, Remo, Yewa and Awori, should come out fully and support the candidature of Prince Dapo Abiodun under the APC for the governorship seat,” he said.

The governor had declared support for the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Abdulkabir Akinlade in the March 9 election.

The lawmaker distributed sewing machines, dryers gas cylinders among others to his constituents.

Similarly, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party, enjoined the people to vote overwhelmingly for APC in the election.

Salako-Oyedele said that the party had won at the Federal level, saying it was important to repeat same at the state level to foster more cordial relationship.
