The Police in Jigawa, on Friday, said it had recovered the corpse of a 35-year-old farmer in a drain in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the incident in Dutse.
Jinjiri said the remains of the deceased, identified as Rabiu Sulaiman, was recovered at about 5:15 p.m. from a drain, on Thursday, Feb. 27, along Abdullahi Maikano Road in Dutse metropolis.
It was gathered that the deceased, a father of one, who was suffering from epilepsy, slumped, fell into the drain and died unnoticed.
“On Feb. 27 at about 5:15 a.m., an information was received that a corpse was sighted lying inside a drainage on Abdullahi Maikano Road, Dutse.
“On receipt of the information, a police team led by an eye witness moved to the scene where photographs of the corpse were taken and removed from the drainage.
“The corpse has been identified as Rabi’u Suleman, aged 35 of Dadin Duniya village in Dutse LGA.
“The corpse was conveyed to Dutse General Hospital where it was examined and certified dead by a medical doctor, who confirmed that the deceased was an epileptic patient,” he said.
Jinjiri added that remains of the deceased have since been released to his relatives for burial, as no foul play was suspected in the case.
A relative of the deceased, Mr Haruna Sale, who spoke at Dadin Duniya village, said that: “I received the news of my brother’s death via phone call yesterday (Thursday) round 5:30 p.m.
“But to confirm the information, I quickly rushed to the hospital where the police and a doctor confirmed the incident to me.
“They released the corpse to us for burial after signing all the necessary documents,” Saleh said.
He further confirmed that the deceased had been suffering from epilepsy for about 15 years.
“My brother who was a farmer and nail cutter suffered from this disease for about 15 years. He could fall at any moment and anywhere.
“So that was why we were not surprised when it was reported that he fell into a drain,” Saleh said.
According to him, Saleh survived by a six-year-old son from a divorced wife.
