The prestigious event, organized by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, was held in Abuja from March 1 to 3, 2020.
The YONSPA initiative, established by the Ministry, seeks to stimulate interest and passion for Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) among Nigerian youth. The 2020 edition brought together brilliant young minds from across the 774 local government areas of the country to showcase their scientific creativity and problem-solving abilities.
At the ceremony, President Muhammadu Buhari, alongside the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, congratulated Master Aimofumhe for his outstanding performance. They praised his knowledge, competitive spirit, and determination, encouraging him to remain steadfast in pursuing excellence. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing STEM education and innovation, describing them as vital pillars for Nigeria’s sustainable development and economic growth.
Officials of the Ministry emphasized the importance of YONSPA in nurturing a new generation of scientists and innovators. They noted that a strong foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is crucial for tackling national challenges, driving self-reliance, reducing dependence on imports, and creating employment opportunities for Nigeria’s growing youth population.
